Sovie Church of Christ

This short history of Sovie Church of Christ has been developed in order to know how the church was established and those who helped in the Management of the Church over the years.

Establishment:

In September/October 1996 an Evangelistic Team made up of the Missionaries from the US and Brothers from Ho Church of Christ came to Sovie to preach the gospel. It was a weeklong gospel campaign that ended up with seven (7) Baptisms.

After that program, our late Brother, Bro. Victor Dei who was an Evangelist/Follow Up worker at Ho Central Church of Christ continued to visit the Church and assisted them in their Sunday worship.

He continued until in January 1997 when brother Stephen M. Dorwu who is currently the Administrator/Registrar and Preacher of Hill Top Church of Christ Ho, was appointed by the Elders of Ho Church of Christ as its first Minister. Bro. Stephen M. Dorwu who was at the time the Secretary of Kpando Church of Christ humbly took the appointment and led the Church and brought the membership to forty-five (45) brothers in a period of three (3) years.

Old Leadership:  During that time some able men of the Church were appointed Leaders and they were as follows:

1George Tagboh – SecretaryBro. Francis Getor – Assistant Secretary

2 Happy Silvester Sulley – Youth Secretary

3 Innocent Attah – Assistant Youth Secretary

4 David Kuwornu – Financial Secretary

5 Francis Godigbe – Member

6 Peter Nyame – Member

In the year 2002 our Brother Stephen Mensah Dorwu was appointed the Administrator of Church of Christ Rural Water Development Programme in Ashaiman and from that time there was the need for him to find a replacement to continue to lead the Church.

In that view, Bro. Francis Getor the current Minister was appointed as leader of the Church and he had since been leading the church up to now. In the event of time, Bro. Francis Getor who was then not a trained Preacher had the ambition to train and was admitted to the Volta School of Evangelism, Ho. Brother Francis Getor was sponsored by the Church and his wife to complete the course in 2007.

Current Membership:

Currently, the church has a total membership of twenty-five (25) because many of our Brothers who were students have completed and have gone outside Sovie in Search of work.

Current Leadership:  The Church currently has the following members as its Leadership:

1 Francis Getor – Minister

2 Vincent Fiamafleh – Secretary

3 Paul Getor and – Financial Secretary

4 Bright Getor – Youth Leader

Church Building:

The Church initially has a meeting place build by the American Brothers in conjunction with Ho Church of Christ in 1999

Support for the Preacher:  The Church supports the Minister with an amount of forty Ghana Cedis (Ghc40.00) monthly however in the months that giving is not enough, the Minister receives the little that the Church gives him.

Challenges:  Due to the small number of membership, the church lacks so many things such as adequate support to the Minister. It also lacks the accommodation for the Minister and because of that he lives with his wife at the apartment owned by Sovie Vocational School.

The Church also needs resources to procure plastic chairs and benches for members and children. It also lacks a shelter for the children to have their Sunday school.

Expectation:

The Church hopes to increase its membership in order to find Brothers who would be able to evangelize in the community so as to bring more souls into the church and to strengthen the church.

We know that with God all things are possible.
